Time to update!

Well, well, well. It's been a while since I've touched my blog or my website for that matter. Let me explain.

* Qufoto, the company that I used for my website since college, decided to go ahead and shut down abruptly and took all my photos and hard work with it. As you might imagine I wasn't thrilled. (I could use other words but I'll keep this PG).

* I have reclaimed my website domain and am in the process of starting from scratch to bring back at least some of my most favorite work over the last 15 years or so. This is no simple task as finding all the CDs, hard drives (some of which are dead!), and other backups has not been easy. I will persevere though and get my website back up and running hopefully sooner rather than later.

* I am still freelancing here and there, mostly for a lovely paper called The Coastal Star that was started by a bunch of former Palm Beach Post journalists years ago and continues to be a favorite in the community. Having high-quality journos on staff for a small monthly paper makes a HUGE difference in the way this paper covers community news and I am thankful that they not only exist but that I get to be a part of their staff. I am about to start working on a very cool story that I can't wait to see go to print in March or April. #journalismmatters

* My day to day job is working as the Communications Associate at a small, private, independent school called Gulf Stream School. Fun Fact: I actually attended GSS back in the day for grades 5-7. I get to use my photojournalism skills every day and have gained a lot more social media and digital skills in my almost three years here. Our website needs some work but now that we have a new Head of School I see us fixing that within the next 6 months or so and I cannot wait to make it way more engaging.

* Working at a school allows me to work with the drama department, which I love, and I have a much healthier work/life balance than I have in the past. I am still trying to take full advantage of that fact, but I'm getting there. Old habits die hard.

* I am hoping to take on more projects which I plan to have on my website once it is up and running again and I am going to be better in 2020 about updating this blog.

Below are just a handful of pictures I have taken this past year that make me smile. Some are from school, others are from freelance assignments, and some were done as family photos for holiday cards. All of these make me smile and bring back happy memories for me just by looking at them. I hope one or two brings a smile to your face as well.

Cheers,
RSO
